DrivingMaul Rugby Predictions – 01 May 2021

Welcome to the new format for my rugby predictions. Instead of having separate posts for each competition I’m going to put all my predictions for the week in 1 post going forwards.

Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 10 & AU Preliminary Final

Before I get into the picks, you can remind yourself what happened last weekend with our Super Rugby Review Show.

Join us Live straight after the final whistle for post-match reaction to the Chiefs v Hurricanes.

You can fuel New Zealand Sport Radio with a coffee over on the right of the page

Hurricanes v HighlandersHighlanders by 3
Blues v Chiefs – Women Chiefs by 5
Blues v Chiefs – MenBlues by 1
Brumbies v Western ForceBrumbies by 5

Record So Far

26 from 38 or 68%, not happy with how my picking has gone. Seems like I miss all the upsets and when I do go for them they don’t happen…..

Check out how my picks are going v the Bookie.

Heineken Champions Cup Semi Finals

The New Zealand Sport Radio podcast is available on SpotifyiTunesiHeartRadioAcast and many more podcatchers.

Toulouse v Bordeaux Begles Toulouse by 7
La Rochelle v Leinster Rugby Leinster Rugby by 3

Record So Far

21 from 31 or 68%, not great but also not bad considering what a mess this season has been.

European Rugby Challenge Cup Semi Finals

Leicester Tigers v Ulster Rugby Ulster Rugby by 5
Bath Rugby v Montpellier Bath Rugby by 5

Record So Far

18 from 24 or 75%, I’m doing surprisingly well in what’s a traditional lottery cup.

Top 14 Catch-up

Racing 92 v Stade Francais Racing 92 by 5
ASM Clermont Auvergne v Brive ASM Clermont Auvergne by 7
Toulon v Agen Toulon by 25

Record So Far

95 from 144 or 65%, not great but the SuperBru average is 62% so it’s not really that bad.

MLR Round 4

San Diego Legion v New England Free Jacks San Diego Legion by 3
LA Giltinis v Old Glory DC LA Giltinis by 15
New Orleans Gold v Toronto Arrows Toronto Arrows by 5
Seattle Seawolves v Rugby United New York Rugby United New York by 3

Record So Far

15 from 33 or 45%, clearly I’m struggling with the MLR this year but then so are most people in SuperBru as 45% is the average picking accuracy.

Rainbow Cup Round 2

Well it’s kind of round 2 but it’s really the 1st round for the South African sides. Who knows how they’ll approach this competition? I’m going with recent form so the Sharks who have beaten the Stormers in their last 3 games and the Bulls who are on a 5 game winning streak over the Lions.

DHL Stormers v Cell C Sharks Cell C Sharks by 5
Vodacom Bulls v Emirates Lions Vodacom Bulls by 5

Record So Far

2 from 6 or 33%, this is a total lottery of a competition that’s only happening to fill TV contracts.
