DrivingMaul Rugby Predictions – 10 Apr 2021

Welcome to the new format for my rugby predictions. Instead of having separate posts for each competition I’m going to put all my predictions for the week in 1 post going forwards.

Womens 6 Nations Round 2

As expected England and France dominated their games last weekend. This weekend France have a bye so at least one of the games will be competitive. The opening game though won’t be, England will beat Italy comfortably. Italy’s women’s team are way better than their male counterparts. They finished 4th last year and 2nd in 2019, however England will still win comfortably.

Wales are coming off the back of a 53-0 loss to France last weekend. Their confidence will not be in a good place. They also have a new coach who’s not had a lot of time with this team to get his structures in place. Basically that’s why I’m going for Ireland. We haven’t seen Ireland yet this year and so there’s definitely some guess work as to their level.

Italy v England England by 30
Wales v Ireland Ireland by 3

Record So Far

2 from 2 or 100%, sounds good but last weekend’s games were extremely easy to predict.

Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 7 & AU Round 8

Before I get into the picks, you can remind yourself what happened last weekend with our Super Rugby Review Show.

First up it’s Super Rugby AU this week with the Rebels taking on the Western Force. The Rebels have shown they are the best of the rest and I just can’t see the Force breaking down that suffocating defence to put on enough points to win this.

Landers v Chiefs is going to be a cracker. Can the Landers continue their great from from last weekend where they comfortably beat the Crusaders? or will the Chiefs extend their 2 game winning streak? As long as there’s no hangover from the win over the Crusaders I’m backing the Landers who are strengthened by the retune of their naughty boys. However the loss of Fakatava is significant and will mean more minutes for A Smith this weekend.

The Reds v Brumbies is the tie of the round. I’m backing the home side to do the double over the men from Canberra. They are clicking where as the Brumbies are just a couple of percent off their clinical best this season. In a game fo fine margins that will be the difference.

The Canes losing to the bounce back Crusaders is going to finish the weekend. This one could get messy if the Crusaders are in full flow bounce back mode. The Canes pack will be in for a tough night and will need to really up their game to make this one competitive.

Highlanders v Chiefs Highlanders by 5
