Top 14 2020-2021 Round 16 Predictions

Thoughts might be turning to the 6 Nations but before we get there (if the games happen) we have some domestic action to keep us occupied. The Top 14 keeps on going and we have a full round of games scheduled this weekend.

Here are my Top 14 Round 16 Predictions:

Montpellier are on a 6 game losing streak but the last 5 have all been single figure losses. Racing are also on a losing streak of 2 games (both at home) also to single figures. At the end of the day though there’s a good reason that Montpellier are staring relegation in the face and against championship hopefuls they are going to come up short.

Clermont v Bordeaux is a cracking tie. 2 games ago they drew 16-16 in Bordeaux. I’m backing home advantage to give Clermont the edge in this one.

The New Zealand Sport Radio podcast is available on SpotifyiTunesiHeartRadioAcast and many more podcatchers.

Another couple of teams that drew earlier in the season are Lyon and Pau when it was 29-29 in Pau. Pau do have the ability to cause occasional upsets even on the road so this could be a banana skin game for Lyon. I still have to follow common sense though and go with the home team.

A rare comfortable win for Bayonne here. Let’s be honest Agen just aren’t up to it this season and are going to record their 16th consecutive loss of this campaign.

Since the beginning of December Brive have won 5 and lost just 1! An amazing turn around from a 6 game losing streak. Toulon have picked up a couple of wins away but they are very much a home team so you have to think Brive’s good run of results will continue.

I’m generally negative on Stade and I don’t know why. I’m going with the away win here which is certainly not the way the bookies see it, so you’ve been warned on this one. I think that Castres could take this one. They have won 3 out of their 4 last away games. They are also my bogey team so maybe I’m way off base with this one.

Top of the table clash! La Rochelle have been overtaken by Toulouse at the top of the table who are on a 7 game winning streak. If La Rochelle can bring that to an end this weekend they will go back top…. I’m backing them to do so.

Montpellier v Racing 92 Racing 92 by 3
ASM Clermont Auvergne v Bordeaux Begles ASM Clermont Auvergne by 3
Lyon v Pau Lyon by 3
Bayonne v Agen Bayonne by 7
Brive v Toulon Brive by 5
Stade Francais v Castres Castres by 3
La Rochelle v Toulouse La Rochelle by 3

Record So Far

Over all I’m 67 from 100 or 67%, on the face of it that’s not great but it does give me a decent ranking on so I’m fairly happy with it.
