Gallagher Premiership 2020-2021 Round 5 Predictions

How many games are we going to see this weekend in the Gallagher Premiership? We lost 2 last weekend and whilst it’s hard to really know what’s going on in the UK from the other side of the planet, it doesn’t sound like things are in a good place at the moment with COVID. Let’s hope that everyone stays safe and that they don’t try to force games to go ahead just for TV.

Anyway you’re here for my predictions not commentary on COVID, for that you can listen to the DrivingMaul Show where we discuss how the rugby authorities are handling the pandemic.

Bristol v Newcastle Falcons – Newcastle Falcons by 3

3rd v 2nd in the table, this is a real test for Falcons. Maybe I’m jumping on the bandwagon too much with this pick. However Falcons have been going really well and have only lost 1 game this year. Bristol are also going well only losing their opening game of the season at Wasps.

So it’s lining up to be a cracking game of can Bristol’s attack breakdown the 3rd best defence in the league?

Worcester Warriors v Harlequins – Harlequins by 7

This should be a high scoring game, well for Quins at least. Quins have scored the 2nd most points in the league but have also let in the 2nd most points as well! Lucky for them Worcester haven’t been good at scoring points so it’s look like an away win.

EDIT – This fixture has since been cancelled due to COVID

Wasps v Exeter Chiefs – Exeter Chiefs by 7

Exeter are beating everyone, until last weekend it had also been by large margins. Gloucester kept it down to an 8 point win. Maybe Exeter are rotating players a bit now with Europe being a big target for them too. Knowing that they need 2 big wins in Europe to stand a chance of progressing maybe we’ll see closer score lines in the Premiership even though they should still get the wins.

Gloucester Rugby v Sale Sharks – Sale Sharks by 3

I initially went for a bigger Sale win but with the off field issues of Dimond leaving you have to wonder how long it’s going to take them to get their performances back up. Gloucester though are the leakiest defence in the league. So if there’s anywhere that Sale can get an away win surely it’s here.

London Irish v Northampton Saints – London Irish by 3

Saints picked up their first won of the season last weekend but that was against bottom of the table Worcester so let’s not get too excited. Irish have been good in defence but not so great in scoring points. With issues scoring I think this will be a close one but I’m backing the home side to get the points.

EDIT – This fixture has since been cancelled due to COVID

Leicester Tigers v Bath Rugby – Bath Rugby by 3

I still don’t have any faith in Tigers. Add in COVID issues in the squad and their preparation can’t be great for this game. Bath had their game last weekend called off also however it wasn’t their fault. That means they’ll be rested and will have had more time to prepare for this game. That should payoff with a win for the away team.

Record So Far

10 from 22 or 45%, I got 2 out of 4 last weekend which is a little better than I’ve been going!!!
