Pro14 2020-2019 Round 9 Predictions

This is probably the best time of year as a fan of the Pro14. It’s derby time! Yup all the teams are playing teams from their own country (not that I want to get involved with Irish politics….) this weekend. You’d hope that would reduce the chance of postponed fixtures but we already have one off with Glasgow Edinburgh postponed.

Zebre Rugby Club v Benetton Rugby – Benetton Rugby by 3

I don’t feel like there’s much form that you can really use to make a pick with this game. Both sides have been going poorly but that’s without their internationals. The difference is going to be who’s brought their internationals back and integrated them the best. I’m going with Benetton as they have been the better of the 2 sides over the last couple of years.

Dragons v Cardiff Blues – Dragons by 3

2 sides that have been up and down. Normally this is an easy pick to go with Cardiff, however Dragons have been going OK this season and are at home. I smell an upset here but it’s going to be close. Remember Dragons are on a 2 game winning streak, imagine if they were to stretch that to 3!

Ospreys v Scarlets – Ospreys by 3

Again another 2 Welsh sides that have been really up and down. Again you’d normally go with the away side recently. However I’m going with the home side as Ospreys look to have put their worst form behind them and are at home.

Munster Rugby v Leinster Rugby – Munster Rugby by 3 – Postponed

Since I started writing this article this game has been postponed as Leinster “are currently investigating the outcomes of some of the results from their latest round of Covid-19 PRC testing”. So some positive tests that nee “sample B” testing to I guess.

Connacht Rugby v Ulster Rugby – Ulster Rugby by 5

Ulster are 1 of 3 sides that have a perfect record in this competition. I think that they’ll be forced to rest some of their Irish internationals but even with that they should have too much for Connacht despite them sitting second in their conference. Let’s be honest all the teams outside of Ireland have been poor this season and this is the first real test for Connacht. Even with those other poor teams they have slipped up twice and so Ulster have to be favourites. Am I just trying to convince myself here…..

Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh – Postponed

It’s been a long time since the Pro 14 have managed to get a full round of games in, so it should come as no surprise that we have a postponement. 2 sides that could use the time well as they have been struggling this season. Hopefully this helps them reset.

Record So Far

I’m 31 from 43 or 72%, I should really be doing better but it is what it is and just got to look forwards.
