The Cheetahs are starting to loose touch with the top 4 and will really need a TBP win this weekend in the Currie Cup. It’s starting to look like Super Rugby sides followed by the Pro 14 and then the 2 provinces that have smaller salary caps. Who says money doesn’t buy success?

Phakisa Pumas v Cheetahs – Cheetahs by 15
This is a must win game for the Cheetahs and with the TBP if they are to have any chance of closing the gap on the top 4. They should be able to do that as the Pumas have only beaten the Griquas all season. The gap between the haves and the have nots has really been shown this season and you do wonder how long that can or will be able to go on.
Xerox Lions v Cell C Sharks – Xerox Lions by 3
This is clearly the tie of the round. The Sharks have been going really well and beat the table topping Bulls at home last weekend. However after a really COVID disrupted start to the season the Lions are getting into their stride. 4 wins on the bounce after that LBP loss to the Bulls shows that they are in good form. At home and at altitude you have to say they should have the advantage.
Also they have the added incentive of keeping that gap back to the Cheetahs to ensure that they get finals footie.
Griquas v Vodacom Bulls – Vodacom Bulls by 10
This is an easy call. A TBP win to the Bulls. The only question really is what will be the margin? I expect the Bulls to rest a whole bunch of players for this trip and so we’ll not see the blow out that many people expect.
It’s tough for the Griquas who have to operate on a small budget than the Super Rugby sides and Pro14 sides. At least they have been able to keep a bunch of games close as we have seen with their 5 LBPs.
Bye – DHL Western Province
Western Province will be relatively happy going into their bye week. They are on track for the finals even if it looks like an away semi0final for them. They’ll need to rest up and will be really targeting their game against the Sharks to try and climb into 2nd place and get that home draw. Unlikely at the moment but still a possibility.
Record So Far
21 from 28 or 75% so far, I had a shocker last weekend getting just 1 out of 3 right!
