Mitre 10 Cup 2020 Round 5 Predictions

It’s nice when you feel like you can sit down and breath. This feels like the first time in a few weeks that I’ve been able to do that. If you want to know what’s going on in the world of New Zealand Sport Radio then check out my Pulling Back The Curtains Series.

This weekend we’ll be getting around the grounds again. I’m at Waikato v Otago in the Mitre 10 Cup. Steven will be covering the North Harbour double header. North Harbour v Waikato in the Farah Palmer Cup followed by North Harbour v Hawke’s Bay in the Mitre 10 Cup. We’ll be bringing you our post match interviews as usual over on our Facebook page.

You’re here for my Mitre 10 Cup predictions so let’s get straight into them.

Manawatu v Canterbury – Canterbury by 20

Manawatu are having a tough season and are the only team without a win so far. Canterbury might not have the depth they’ve had in the past but shouldn’t have any trouble overcoming the Turbos.

Taranaki v Auckland – Auckland by 20

Can two players make that much difference to a side? When the Beauden and Jordie the answer is yes. Auckland should pick up a comfortable away victory over the Championship side that held the Ranfurly shield for a week.

North Harbour v Hawke’s Bay – North Harbour by 5

This is a really tough game to call. Until last weekend when Harbour upset reigning champions Tasman, you’d have said this was an easy call. However their breakdown work clicked and they starved Tasman of the ball.

Hawke’s Bay have gone quietly about their work until last weekend when they won the Shield off Otago. I’m counting on a shield hangover and home advantage to be the difference.

New Zealand Sport Radio will be at this game bringing you match updates and post match interviews over on our Facebook Page.

Wellington v Otago – Wellington by 10

Wellington should pickup a comfortable home victory here even if they have been a bit up and down this season. Otago will be demoralised after losing the shield and it could take a couple of weeks to pick themselves up after that.

Waikato v Counties Manukau – Waikato by 15

Waikato will be looking for a home win to keep the pressure on the top of the Premiership table. Counties only win this season has come over the winless Turbos so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

New Zealand Sport Radio will be at this game bringing you match updates and post match interviews over on our Facebook Page.

Tasman v Bay of Plenty – Tasman by 10

Tasman will be looking to bounce back from that upset win last weekend to Harbour. Really not what the Steamers need to get their season on track. They have found the step-up to the Premiership a struggle and injuries aren’t helping them.

Northland v Southland – Northland by 10

The 2 ends of the country meet. What used to be a bottom of the table clash in the Championship has turned into a battle between two playoff contenders. Whilst Northland have been going well maybe I’m being a bit over confident as all of Southland’s games have been decided by single figures.

Farah Palmer Cup

The Farah Palmer Cup is the women’s provincial competition here in New Zealand. Here are the round 6 fixtures and we’ll be covering the games in bold on our Facebook Page:

  • Counties Manukau v Bay of Plenty – Counties by 5
  • North Harbour v Waikato – Waikato by 60
  • Northland v Taranaki – Northland by 50
