Pro14 2019-2020 Round 14 Predictions

The Pro14 returns this coming weekend and takes a different approach to the Premiership. They aren’t going to try and catchup all the games that were missed. Instead we are going to get tow rounds of derby games and then we are into the finals!

I’m testing my predictions in DrivingMaul v the Bookie. Check out how I did against the TAB in Round 13.

Benetton Rugby v Zebre Rugby Club – Benetton Rugby by 7

It’s nice to have an easy one to ease us back into the picking. Benetton have won 9 out of the last 10 meetings between these sides. Home win to kick us off

Scarlets v Cardiff Blues – Scarlets by 3

Two sides that have been a bit up and down this season. Scarlets home record though of 6 wins from 7 games means that you have to back them. The reason for the small margin is that over the last couple of years between these two sides either Scarlets win narrowly or the Blues win big. However it’s a Scarlets narrow win more often than not.

Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors – Edinburgh by 7

Richard Cockerill has done a great job with Edinburgh and they have a perfect record at home this season. Need I say more? Well I’ll repeat what I’ve said about Glasgow earlier in the season that they have been slowly draining talent over the last few years and that’s come home to roost this season.

Leinster Rugby v Munster Rugby – Leinster Rugby by 5

This is always a cracking Irish derby. I’ve gone with Leinster as they very rarely lose, that’s any game not just at home! They have a perfect record in the Pro14 and that means they have already qualified top of their conference for the finals. Will they let their foot off the gas a little?

Munster do need the win more and so I have been having second thoughts about this one.

Ospreys v Dragons – Dragons by 3

Will this game even happen? Dragons new signing Jamie Roberts has reportedly tested positive for CORONA virus. What will that mean for the Dragons preparation for this game. I made this pick before that news cameo out and Dean Ryan has been doing a good job at the Drgaons.

The Ospreys on the other hand were a mess going into lockdown having lost 10 of their 13 games. Things are apparently improving but I’d like to see it on the pitch before I start backing them in any game.

Connacht Rugby v Ulster Rugby – Connacht Rugby by 3

Ulster are having a decent season but that’s totally based on their home record where they have won every game. Away has been a totally different story with only 1 win

I know it’s a cliche but Connacht is one of the more difficult grounds to travel too due to the weather and it’s remoteness. How much will that change with the warmer time of year? We’ll have to wait and see but history means I’m going for a narrow home win.

Bye – Cheetahs and Kings

Well not so much a bye as they are not taking part in the rest of the Pro14 season due to travel restrictions and playing restrictions around COVID19 in South Africa.

Record So Far

Over all I’m 71 from 89 or 80% I was going well before the lockdown, can I keep it up for the resumption???
