Super Rugby Aotearoa 2020 Round 7 Predictions

We might already know who’s going to win Super Rugby Aotearoa but we can still enjoy the games.

I’m testing my Super Rugby picks against the TAB in my series DrivingMaul v The Bookie. Check out how I did in Round 6.

Crusaders v Hurricanes – Crusaders by 14

The Crusaders saw their grip on the title tighten last weekend even though they didn’t play! The Canes did them a favour (and they don’t really need any) by beating the Blues. The loss of David Havili and Ethan Blackadder will be disappointments but they have the depth to cope with it.

The Canes are on a bit of a run at the moment. They lost their opening 2 games against the Blues and Crusaders. Since Jordie has returned though they are 3 from 3. I think heading down to Canterbury though is going to be a test too far.

Van Wyk has been announced as a Tiger and will be heading off after this game. That’s a shame as he’s been playing well but I don’t think that will destabilise the team though as players do move around.

Blues v Chiefs – Blues by 5

2 losses after 3 back to back wins isn’t what the Blues needed. It does show that they have got some ways to go and aren’t the finished article. At home they will be looking to bounce back and get their intensity back up.

The Chiefs are having a horror season, they were going well before the lockdown but since Super Rugby has resumed it’s been a disaster. Injuries have been an issue however they need to get past that. Last weekend they got close but allowed a 24 point lead to slip. That’s got to dent their already fragile moral.

Bye – Highlanders

Both their wins so far have been against the Chiefs or the bottom team. That’s clearly better than nothing but they did look clearly the best of the rest behind the Crusaders and Blues initially. They’ll be using this week off to prepare to host the Blues. A side that travelled poorly to Wellington last weekend. Will they be able to get that third win???

Record So Far

7 from 12 or 58% so far, I’m having a poor Super Rugby Aotearoa.
