Pro14 2019-2020 Round 13 Predictions

It’s starting to look like the Pro14 season is going to be heavily impacted by COVID-19. Two games are called off this weekend and with weather meaning that the Dragons v Benetton needs catchup there’s a lot of work for the schedulers to do. There’s still five games going a head this weekend and my thoughts on them are below.

I’m testing my predictions in DrivingMaul v the Bookie. Check out how I did against the TAB in Round 12.

Edinburgh v Cardiff Blues – Edinburgh by 10

A easy one to kick off the weekend. Edinburgh are a good side at home and Blues have a 50:50 record. Then I saw their historical and it looks like the Blues are Edinburgh’s bogey team.

Whilst Edinburgh have struggled against the Blues in the past I just can’t see them slipping up again. Surely they’ll start to even out this record???

Leinster Rugby v Glasgow Warriors – Leinster Rugby by 10

Leinster still haven’t lost a game this season or even drawn for that matter. Surely they’ll lose one at some point but I can’t see it coming at home. Also Glasgow are one of the more heavily hit by international call ups (I know Leinster have a few missing too). Scotland only having two professional sides means they really are hit in the windows.

Zebre Rugby Club v Ospreys – Ospreys by 3

Well that would have been my prediction but it’s been postponed due to COVID-19.

Benetton Rugby v Ulster Rugby – Ulster Rugby by 3

Well that would have been my prediction but it’s been postponed due to COVID-19.

Munster Rugby v Scarlets – Munster Rugby by 7

This should be a cracking game as second hosts third in Conference B. Historically Munster have had a reputation for being really tough to beat at home. Maybe that’s more in Europe than the Pro14 though. This season their home and away records are the same.

Scarlets on the other hand like their home cooking. Their only away victories have been against Cardiff (not that far away) and Glasgow. Glasgow might be third in Conference A but they have been inconsistent. I think this trip over to Ireland will be too tough.

Dragons v Cheetahs – Dragons by 3

As you’ll see in the comments Charlie would go Cheetahs and I get that call. The Cheetahs are chasing a playoff spot and the Dragons certainly aren’t. However the Cheetahs do find it hard on the road. Also the Dragons have won their last two home games. Dean Ryan has made them a side that will get blown out sometimes but can get results at home.

Edit – Sorry for missing this game out when I originally posted this piece

Kings v Connacht Rugby – Connacht Rugby by 7

This is one where it’s who’s going to lose the game the least rather than who’s going to win it. Connacht don’t like travelling, their two away wins have been over the Dragons and Ospreys. Hardly top opposition. Lucky for them they aren’t facing top opposition this weekend.

The Kings have just the one win and that was away to Ospreys. I can’t see them getting their second here.

Record So Far

Over all I’m 66 from 83 or 80% not bad and it’s seeing me in the black against the bookie.

  1. Cool, I would have gone Cheetahs to win personally. I don’t think much of the Dragons, to be honest.
