We have past the halfway point of the Pro14 season. Whilst we know who’s going to win Conference A the minor placings are up for grabs. Also Conference B is a three maybe four way battle at the moment! With Ospreys picking up a win last weekend it shows that anything can happen (well except Leinster lose).
Edinburgh v Connacht Rugby – Edinburgh by 5
Edinburgh are having a fine season and are topping the conference. Previously they have been great at home but suspect on the road. Wins against Cardiff, Munster and Scarlets on the road now show they can perform away from home too.
Connacht on the other hand are still very much a handful at home but not so much away. Sure they have a couple of wins but those are over Ospreys and Dragons. A trip up to Edinburgh, who are undefeated at home, will be a step too far.
Ospreys v Leinster Rugby – Leinster Rugby by 7
Should we be surprised by Ospreys win last weekend? Yes but there were signs there. Four out of their last five losses were by single digits. They were improving but I didn’t think they had the belief to win a close one.
This weekend though they come up against Leinster who haven’t lost all season. Just keeping this one close will be an achievement.
Zebre Rugby Club v Munster Rugby – Munster Rugby by 10
With Edinburgh going so well, Munster need TBP win to maintain the pressure. Boy did they achieve that last weekend and whilst we won’t be looking at such a comfortable win they should achieve it this weekend too.
Zebre without their Italian players are always going to struggle. This game won’t be fair contest given the 6 nations.
Glasgow Warriors v Dragons – Glasgow Warriors by 15
After a poor start to the season Glasgow have turned things around. Sure they haven’t been up against the strongest opposition but you still need to get the results. Again this weekend they aren’t up against the strongest opposition even if Dragons are improved.
I have been positive about Dragons this season and the big margin I’m going for isn’t so much about them. When Glasgow get their tails up they tend to win big. If Dragons keep this close then the Warriors might lose belief and allow the points to be snatched from them.
Ulster Rugby v Cheetahs – Ulster Rugby by 5
On the surface this is an easy pick. It might be second hosting third in the conference, however the only win outside South Africa for the Cheetahs was against the Ospreys.
What puts a spider in the ointment is Ulster’s loss to Ospreys last weekend. How much has dented their confidence will be seen this weekend. That’s why I’ve gone for a smaller margin.
Cardiff Blues v Benetton Rugby – Cardiff Blues by 3
With International call-ups this should be a comfortable home win. However we are talking about Cardiff here. You think things are heading in the right direction then they lose by 29 points. I still think that Cardiff will get the win but it’s not with a lot of confidence.

Scarlets v Kings – Scarlets by 15
One of the easier picks of the round. Sure Scarlets tripped up last weekend but they are hosting the Kings this weekend. The Kings leaked 68 points away to Munster last weekend so how many can Scarlets rack up???
Record So Far
Over all I’m 59 from 76 or 78% not bad and it’s seeing me in the black against the bookie.
