Gallagher Premiership 2019-2020 Round 10 Predictions

The Gallagher Premiership feels really weird this season. The whole Saracens saga has been more of a story than the rugby itself. Now it’s overshadowed by the 6 Nations.

With all that when we do look at the table it’s crazy close with teams beating each other all other the place. That means Gloucester in fourth have lost more games than they have won! Whilst Bath in seventh have a winning record but a lack of bonus points means they are out of the European places.

However we still haven’t reached the halfway point of the season even though we are into February. That means there’s still a lot of movement to happen.

Gloucester Rugby v Exeter Chiefs – Exeter Chiefs by 3

There are very few picks that I think are easy to make this week. That starts right from the top. My initial thought was to go with Gloucester due to Exeter missing Internationals and injuries. Then I remembered how important Heinz is to Gloucester….Changing my mind normally is a bad idea but I’ve done it this time and I’m not confident on this pick.

Harlequins v London Irish – Harlequins by 7

Quins are good at home (only lost once at home this season) and don’t lose as many players to England as they used to. Irish on the other hand can just throw everything at it with nothing to lose. Yup we are going to see what kind of play ring fencing might produce now that we know Saracens are going down. Until we get to see proof of that though you have to stick with the home side.

Leicester Tigers v Wasps – Leicester Tigers by 3

Another tough one as two sides that are really struggling this season go head to head. Perversely Wasps have won more games away than at home this season. Still Tigers have only lost to Exeter and Saracens at home so I’m backing the home side.

Saracens v Sale Sharks – Sale Sharks by 3

OK now that Saracens know that they are going down and that Europe is the only silverware on offer, how will they approach these games?

Add to that they players they are missing to Internationals and Sale are in with a real shout here. Sale have more to play for than Saracens so I’m backing an away win. Something I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing prior to the relegation being confirmed.

Worcester Warriors v Bath Rugby – Worcester Warriors by 3

As I mention above Bath’s issue this season is getting bonus points. Well another is winning away from home which they have only done once. Worcester actually have a decent home record (well for a bottom of the table group team). That’s what’s driving my pick. There’s the uncertainty of what removing the stress of relegation will do but we’ll have to wait to see that.

Northampton Saints v Bristol – Northampton Saints by 7

Saints problems come when they are up against forward orientated teams. That’s not something that you can accuse Bristol of. Therefore you have to back the home win even if Saints early season form has evaporated.

Also remember Bristol only have one away win……it was at Exeter though…..

Record So Far

34 from 54 or 63% correct.
