We have reached the last round of the regular season whilst conference A is just about sorted there are still a whole bunch of permutations in conference B that could happen.
Here is my video with my Pro14 Round 21 Predictions:
Dragons v Scarlets – Scarlets by 10
This pick isn’t as easy at it might appear at first. Scarlets have only won 1 game away from home all season. That was in South Africa against the Kings. That’s right against the mighty team that have only won 2 games all season. So to call Scarlets away record poor is being rather nice about it.
The Dragons though are a basket case of a side that haven’t won since December in the Pro14. Also a paltry 3 bonus points sees them behind the Kings in the table despite winning twice as many games. Yup it still has to be an away victory.
Cheetahs v Kings – Cheetahs by 7
This game really has no consequence on anything. These sides may even decide to rest players in this competition, so they are available in the SuperSport Rugby Challenge that kicks off this weekend in South Africa. Who knows but in any sensible world you have to go with the home side.
Zebre Rugby Club v Benetton Treviso – Benetton Treviso by 7
Benetton need the win and preferably with a bonus point to ensure that they get into the playoffs. Their fate is in their hands and as Zebre haven’t won in the Pro14 since October last year, you have to think Benetton will get the job done.
Cardiff Blues v Ospreys – Cardiff Blues by 7
Oh the conspiracy theories that could be spun from this one. These sides can’t make the playoffs but they can get into a European Rugby Champions Cup qualification game. It just happens that Blues flyhallf Gareth Anscombe all be playing for Ospreys next season. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have a game deciding howler in the last minute like a certain Ben Botica did….
Ulster v Leinster – Ulster by 3
Normally you would say that Leinster are hot favourite in just about any game they go in to. However this result doesn’t matter to them and they have more important games coming up. We have already seen that with 2 losses and a draw in their last 3 Pro14 games. Ulster are on a good run with 5 wins in their last 6 games so look for them to give the home fans something to cheer about.
Glasgow Warriors v Edinburgh – Edinburgh by 3
Both these teams have something on the line. Glasgow want to top the group and get a home semi-final and Edinburgh are looking to pick up on a Benetton slip-up to make the playoffs. Edinburgh have already beaten Glasgow twice this season so they know how to do it. With that in mind I’m going for the three-peat.
Munster v Connacht Rugby – Munster by 5
Connacht will finish 3rd in the conference and get into the playoffs no matter the result. However Munster are hoping that Edinburgh do them a favour and beat Glasgow. If that happens then they can top the conference, have a bye week and get that home semi-final. With more on the line you have to back the home side.
