Only 3 rounds to go and whilst things aren’t all decided yet they are getting very close. Gloucester could pip Saracens to a home semi-final. There’s a host of teams that could be in 4th, 5th and 6th to qualify for various competitions. Finally Newcastle look like they will be relegated but it’s not mathematically confirmed yet.
Here is my video with my Gallagher Premiership Round 20 Predictions:
Newcastle Falcons v Northampton Saints – Northampton Saints by 3
The first game is perhaps the hardest to call of the weekend. The heart gets in the way of the head as I’d like to see the relegation battle go down to the wire. However I think that the last round might have knocked the stuffing out of Falcons. Also it looks like things are on the up at Saints who are fighting for a Champions Cup spot and even an outside chance of the playoffs.
Sale Sharks v Bath – Sale Sharks by 7
Here are 2 teams that love their home comforts. Sale are 7 from 9 at home but only 2 from 10 away. Bath similarly are 6 from 10 at home and 2 from 9 away. This has home win written all over it to see Sharks leapfrog Bath in the table.
Exeter Chiefs v Harlequins – Exeter Chiefs by 5
Exeter have a home semi-final already in bag. So there isn’t really much to play for in the rest of the regular season. It’s all about making sure they hit the playoffs with the best preparation. Quins though are in a bit of free fall. After their 5 wins on the trot they have now lost 4 on the bounce. Just when they need to be finishing strongly they are fading and opening the door to other teams for the playoffs.
Leicester Tigers v Bristol – Leicester Tigers by 3
Tigers win over Falcons in the last round should be enough to see them safe from relegation. A win here though would make it almost certain. Bristol have had a good first season back in the top flight but their away record has been poor with only 1 win from 9 games. They also need 1 more win just to make it certain that they won’t go down but if Falcons have already lost then they don’t even need that.
Wasps v Saracens – Wasps by 3
Another game that’s hard to call. Normally you’d go for Saracens because they are Saracens. However they have clearly had Europe as their main target this season and that’s led to “only” 4 wins from 9 away games this season. A perfect home record though means that they are almost certain to get a home semi-final anyway. Wasps also have won their last 2 games including beating Chiefs. Saracens resting players for playoff games and the European final plus Wasps on a bit of a roll…..yup home win.
Worcester Warriors v Gloucester Rugby – Gloucester Rugby by 5
The Warriors big win over Sharks last weekend went a long way to there survival. It all really comes down to the opening game of this round. If Falcons have won then there will be a real rocket up the home side to get something from this game. However Gloucester are on a roll with 4 wins on the bounce and the outside chance of catching Saracens for a home semi-final. I think we’ll see Gloucester’s class shine through here.
