An Uber Drivers Week – Thursday

I’m a rugby pundit and Uber driver, this is day 4 of my Uber drivers week where I give you a day by day update on how I’m going. For a full description of this series read the Intro post.

If you’d like to watch rather than read, here’s my video or scroll past to read on how Thursday went.

In my head I’m expecting/aiming to earn $20/hr so for a day time session of 9am-2pm that would be $100 and an evening session of 7:30pm-10:30pm $60. So a total of $160 for the day.

One Off Costs

As expected I got less hours on the road today than the target number. First I did some birthday shopping for my daughter and then took my sister-in-law to the airport. Then as I have to get a Certificate Of Fitness for my car I had to pickup a cargo net from the Uber office. Apparently hatchback boots/trunks are safe for private use but as soon as it’s not your family and friends they don’t hold luggage securely enough. So you need net or other luggage block in place. I think they should either be considered safe or not and that private or paying passenger use shouldn’t make a difference but that’s just me.

I then went to get my Certificate Of Fitness but I don’t have enough securing points for the cargo net. After visiting a panel beater apparently that’s going to cost me another $100-250 and half a day off the road to sort out. That’s going to be a problem for next week but does mean a visit to another panel beater tomorrow morning to get a second quote.

When I did get to drive it as a decent day in the end, a little quiet in the day but a good evening has really helped. I reached the $20 for the hours I was online which is the par target. I was helped out by getting my first “surge” trip so that was *2.2 due to the demand for trips vrs the number of drivers available in the area.

On the cost side of things I have to fill-up with petrol again today so of the $451 I’ve made $96 so far has gone straight on petrol. I have over half a tank left so I should be good for tomorrow but as Caltex & AA have a 10 cents off a litre deal tomorrow I’ll try to fill-up at the end of the day.

After 4 days of driving I have spent 1 day online so that 25% of my time spent Ubering.
