An Uber Drivers Week – Tuesday

I’m a rugby pundit and Uber driver, this is day 2 of my Uber drivers week where I give you a day by day update on how I’m going. For a full description of this series read the Intro post.

If you’d like to watch rather than read, here’s my video or scroll past to read on how Tuesday went.

In my head I’m expecting/aiming to earn $20/hr so for a day time session of 9am-2pm that would be $100. Tuesday was a little different in that I had to have a medical for my  P Endorsement as well as take that to the Uber office to have scanned and finally to a VTNZ testing station to make the application. This meant I started late and also had over an hour of disruptions during the day.

One Off Costs

I’m short of the $100 which is disappointing but not unexpected with the P endorsement disruptions. I was still on track to get to $100 but my afternoon un-expectantly went quiet. My normal waiting spot didn’t produce a trip and so I thought I’d try something new and went for a trip through Newmarket, Remuera, down Great South Road to Sylvia Park where I eventually got a trip all the way back to Newmarket. So clearly that didn’t work and I should have just headed back into town. However if you never try anything new you never learn anything new.

On the costs side of things I had to fill up with petrol at the beginning of the day and that cost me $48.80. The one off costs are for the medical and to apply for the P Endorsement. Uber do have a promotion this week that if you get your medical and apply for your P Endorsement they will give you $100 when the P Endorsement comes through. So that will offset most of my one off costs.

I got my first 4* review from someone today and that now means I’m no longer a 5* driver. It’s a vanity metric as your star rating doesn’t impact how Uber allocate trips as far as I know and so makes not difference to how much you make.
