I’m a rugby pundit and Uber driver, this is day 1 of my Uber drivers week where I give you a day by day update on how I’m going. For a full description of this series read the Intro post.
If you’d like to watch rather than read, here’s my video or scroll past to read on how Monday went.
In my head I’m expecting/aiming to earn $20/hr so for a day time session of 9am-2pm that would be $100. It turns out I was online for 5hrs 54mins so I started a earlier and finished later but it was still whilst my girls were at school.

I hit the $100 expected total for the day but only just, I was below the $20/hr that I thought I was going to be be par. Clearly the issue is the amount of non-trip time. Looking at the trips the one that jumps out is the 53mins it took me to get a trip after going to the airport. However I earned $34.28 on that trip that took 39mins so around $35 for 1hr 32mins so close to $20/hr. I had 2 over 20min gaps during the day and so it’s these gaps that I need to try to cut down.
Costs are currently 0 as I had half a tank of petrol at the start of the day and that was enough. I will be filling up first thing in the morning so that 0 won’t be around for long.
Tomorrow will also be impacted as I have to get a medical certificate to apply for my P Endorsement as the law has changed. So whilst I’ll be doing work related things I won’t be online on the app.
