Pro12 2016-2017 Round 4 Predictions

The Pro12 have its first abandoned game of the season last weekend as Connacht got a let off as they were trailing Zebre. Let’s hope all the games can be played fully this weekend and here are my round 4 predictions.

First here is a link to my round-up of all of last weekend’s action from around the globe.

How did your round 3 predictions go?

4 from 5, as Cardiff continued to impress.

Here are my predictions, read below for my reasons.

Leinster v Ospreys

Both these sides have had good starts to the season even if there was that blip against Glasgow for Leinster. They bounced back well against Edinburgh and look like contenders again this season. Ospreys are getting lots of plaudits and with 3 TBP wins you can see why. If you look a little deeper though those wins have come against the 2 Italian sides and an off for Connacht. I think Ospreys might come into this game a little under cooked and the home side should take the victory.

Glasgow Warriors v Ulster

Glasgow will be smarting after that shock loss to Cardiff last weekend. They had been looking really good with victories over the 2 finalists from last season and many of us had them as early season favourite. Ulster have also had a good start with 3 wins but again it’s been a soft schedule and this will be their first real test. I’m expecting a big reaction from Glasgow and so I’m going for a home victory by a couple of scores.

Glasgow Warriors by 10

Benetton Treviso v Newport Gwent Dragons

Both these sides are already destined for the bottom end of the table. I can’t see Treviso picking up a win until they face Zebre. So clearly I have to go with an away victory but Dragons don’t fill me with confidence being away from home so should be a tight game.

Newport Gwent Dragons by 3

Munster v Edinburgh

Munster have been going well this season under their new director of rugby. That 1 point loss to Cardiff was put into perspective last weekend and there’s no shame in that result. Edinburgh are fairly much what we expected, a lower half of the table team. As historically Edinburgh don’t travel well this has home win written all over it.

Zebre v Cardiff Blues

Zebre were so unlucky last weekend to have their game called off when they were 22-10 up. That will give them a massive confidence boost but unfortunately not other reward as they will have to replay the whole game. This weekend they face up to the most improved side the competition and they aren’t going to get any reward from this game either. In years past Blues have struggled in Italy but this is a different team this season. As you can see below we discussed them on #RugbyChat and if they could go all the way and win the whole thing.

Cardiff Blues by 15

Scarlets v Connacht Rugby

The 2 fairly tale teams from last year are both winless so far this season. That abandoned game won’t have helped Connacht at all and most of us were expecting them to kick-start their season there. I think that home advantage is going to decide who gets their first win of the season and so I’m going for a home win but only by 1 score.

Scarlets by 5
