Pro12 2015-2016 Round 22 Predictions

We have reached the final round of the season and all the games have something riding on them. Here are my round 22 predictions.

First here is a link to my round-up of all the action from last weekend.

How did your round 21 predictions go?

4 from 6, I don’t think anyone saw Treviso’s win coming.

Here is my 30 second One Line Predictions, read the full reasoning below.

Connacht Rugby v Glasgow Warriors

This is a clash of the top two and when you look at it that way the split of the public vote is quite shockingly wide. The reason for this is that Glasgow who struggled earlier in the season are on a nine game winning streak. It does appear that they have timed their run to perfection. In contrast Connacht have have lost two of their last three games. Away to Ulster can be forgiven but away to Treviso is unforgivable. I think that one result is swaying people too much and I think it will be closer than the voting suggests. I’m still going with the form team.

Edinburgh v Cardiff Blues

Both these sides have an outside chance of making the top 6 and grabbing a Champions Cup place. After starting the season with four wins Edinburgh have been inconsistent and it’s been their away form that’s hampered them the most. After seven losses on the trot early in the season Cardiff made a late run. Stumbling against Ospreys last weekend looks to have meant they will come up short. As they are at home I’m backing Edinburgh to get the win.

Leinster v Benetton Treviso

Even with Treviso’s home win over Connacht last weekend this is one of the easiest ones to call. All three Trevino’s wins have been at home. So clearly this is going to be a TBP home win and give Leinster a home playoff.

Munster v Scarlets

Scarlets have been at the top end of the table all season but not being able to string more than two wins together since November has hurt them. Then two losses in the last three games saw them slip out and then get back into the top four places.Munster’s season has been seen as a failure but that’s mainly been down to their European campaign. In the league they have been there abouts if not challenging for the top all season. At home I think they will have enough especially as they know they need the win to guarantee Champions Cup next season.

Munster by 5

Ospreys v Ulster

Ospreys are hoping for results to go their way so that a win here gets them a Champions Cup place. It didn’t look like it was on the cards but three TBP wins on the trot has given them a chance. Ulster have been at the top end all season bouncing in and out of the top 4. At the moment they are just out and hoping for Munster to do them a favour. I think that Ulster’s experience will carry them through.

Ulster by 5

Zebre v Newport Gwent Dragons

Normally it’s a fairly easy call when these sides are involved in a game. But I can’t predict for them both to lose. Neither side has won since January and at least one long run is going to come to an end. I’m going with a home win as Dragons haven’t won away all seasons even against Treviso. This will lift Zebre above Treviso and into the Italian Champions Cup spot for finishing 11th.
