European Rugby Challenge Cup 2015-2016 Round 3 Predictions

We return to the lottery cup for the double header that will go a long way towards deciding who will make the quarter finals. Here are my predictions for round 3.

Here’s a reminder of how the round 2 action went.

How did your predictions of round 2 go?

10 from 10, it was a good weekend of predictions.

Worcester Warriors v Gloucester Rugby

Warriors haven’t had the results recently and will still have their eyes firmly on the league. I think they’ll be taking this opertunity to rest players as survival is everything for them. Gloucester will think they have a good shot in this tournament and it also guarantees a  Chapions Cup slot next year. So I’m going for an away win even though Gloucester aren’t at their best yet.

Agen v Grenoble

Fairly simple as we have two struggling French sides. Go with the home team and I’ll be switching it round for the return game next week.

Cardiff Blues v Montpellier

Cardiff got a good win last weekend against the then Pro12 leaders. That wasn’t a fluke as they have been improving over the last couple of weeks. Montpellier will see this as adistraction  and having already lost in this competition I’m expecting a weaker side to board the plane. So comfortable home win.

Cardiff Blues by 10

Connacht Rugby v Newcastle Falcons

Connacht had that loss to Cardiff last weekend and have something like over 15 players injured. However Newcastle have been struggling this season and have to travel to the west coast of Iteland. I feel that Connacht’s form should be enough for a home win despite those injuries.

La Rochelle v Zebre

Zebra have been the better of the two Italian sides this season. But they are still poor and French sides don’t like losing infront of their fans.

Newport Gwent Dragons v Section Paloise

Dragons picked up a moral boosting win over Munster last weekend. Add to that I’m expecting Pau to send a weakened side over from France. So another home win.

Calvisano v Harlequins

This is one of the biggest mismatches of the weekend. A second tier Italian side taking on one of the form teams from the Aviva Premiership. Away win with the TBP wrapped up with plenty of time left on the clock.

Harlequins by 20

London Irish v Edinburgh

Irish have been struggling to settle in a new coaching team and key players. Also losing your new 10 to retirement just before the season starts hasn’t helped. Edinburgh have had a mixed season but should have enough to add to Irish’s woes.

Enisei-STM v Brive

The biggest challenge for Btive is going to be the weather in Russia. Even sending a depleted squad they should have too much class.

Brive by 7

Castres v Sale Sharks

Castres are sat midtable in the Top14 and will like many teams see this as a distraction. Being at home though they will be looking for s good performance. Sale rested players in round 1 and after that loss I expect Dimond to do it again. This has home win written all over due to the clubs other ambitions.
