This week I touch on Singapore culture, sports kicking off this weekend and kids entertainment.
Singapore Culture
You may have noticed that your kids didn’t go to school today. That’s because today is teachers day in Singapore. The idea is to honour the teachers of Singapore and from a practical point of view it means your kids should have taken presents in yesterday and the teachers get today off. So if you forgot get out there this weekend and buy something unless you want little Johnny to be teachers least favourite.
Sports
This weekend see the kickoff of the Aviva Premiership and the RaboDirect Pro12 also the NFL has just kicked off their season and the America’s Cup finals. Here are a couple of links for previews:
Aviva Premiership Preview and RaboDirect Pro12 Preview. The rugby games you can catch on Setanta along with the on going Rugby Championship games.
For the NFL an AFC Preview and a NFC Preview. The NFL can be watched on ASN but I don’t think it’s part of the normal Starhub sports package.
The America’s Cup Finals start on Sunday but this regatta has already been dogged by legal wrangling and the final is no different with Oracle being docked 2 points. I have not been able to find which TV channel it’s on in Singapore.
Kids Entertainment
The Little Company of SRT (Singapore Repertory Theatre) have been having a busy week! Not only do they have The Tale Of The Frog Prince (tickets from Sistic) in production now until the 29th September. Also tickets for their next show Red Riding Hood from 1st November to the 15th December are on sale. Finally tickets for multiple shows they have on during Kids Fest 2014 (Jan-Feb) have gone on sale. The Little Company is my favourite theatre company in Singapore and our kids have enjoyed severals shows such as Cat in the Hat and the Ugly Duckling. If we can fit in going to The Tale Of The Frog Prince I’ll do a full write up.
The latest movie from Pixar or Disney as they now are is out. Planes is set in the same world as Cars and from the trailer is easy to guess the plot, crop duster gets to enter a plane race and will probably win. It was originally planned to go straight to DVD so not expecting a classic but the kids should still enjoy it and I’ll post a write up once we have been.
Well, I think P is keen on planes, and I never got back to you about the theatre. Certainly things to organise!
The saddle club thing on Sunday looks great (http://www.btsc.org.sg) but too out of the way for us and so expensive in taxis
